Device compatibility

Your exact device must support eSIM, be carrier-unlocked, and allow a new mobile plan.

The three checks that matter

  1. eSIM hardware: the exact model must include an eSIM chip and show an Add eSIM option or an EID number.
  2. Carrier unlock: a compatible phone can still reject a travel eSIM when it is locked to the carrier that sold it.
  3. Regional model: phones with the same marketing name can have different SIM features depending on where they were purchased.

Quick check on iPhone

  • Open Settings, Cellular or Mobile Data. Look for Add eSIM.
  • Open Settings, General, About. An EID indicates eSIM hardware.
  • In General, About, check Carrier Lock. No SIM Restrictions means the iPhone is unlocked.

iPhone XS, XS Max, XR and later families generally support eSIM, but country-specific models and SIM configurations can differ. Verify the exact model using Apple's current eSIM requirements.

Quick check on Android

  • Dial *#06# and look for an EID, or open About phone and Status information.
  • Search Settings for Add eSIM, Download a SIM, SIM manager, or Set up an eSIM.
  • Ask the original carrier to confirm the phone accepts eSIMs from another provider. An EID alone does not prove that the phone is unlocked.

Google Pixel

Pixel 3a and later families commonly support eSIM, while carrier and regional exceptions exist. Google notes that dual-eSIM and 5G behavior also depends on the Pixel generation and carrier. Check Google's current Pixel SIM guidance.

Samsung Galaxy

Many recent Galaxy S, Z Fold, Z Flip and selected other models support eSIM, but support varies by exact model number, sales region, carrier firmware, and software version. Compare the model number in Settings, About phone with Samsung's current compatibility guidance.

Other phones, tablets, and watches

Selected Motorola, Xiaomi, Oppo, Huawei, Honor, Sony, Nokia and other devices support eSIM. Always check the manufacturer's specification for the exact model number. A smartwatch eSIM or tablet eSIM does not prove that a phone supports the same plan.

If you are still unsure

Do not purchase based only on the phone's family name. Send support the manufacturer, exact model number, purchase country, and a screenshot showing the EID or Add eSIM menu. Never send an IMEI publicly.
